Responsible Aquaculture Foundation

New Online Courses

LogoThe Responsible Aquaculture Foundation is working in conjunction with leading experts in the fields of aquaculture and distance education to produce training and educational materials for primary delivery via the Internet. RAF also supports the further application of this course material in localized workshops organized by regional supporters and partners.

The RAF Education Program provides a platform from which to disseminate knowledge on best management practices for aquaculture. It will also attempt to address issues related to disease and other production problems as they develop.

With support from foundations such as the Resource Legacy Fund, RAF’s online education has initially focused course content on seafood safety, social responsibility, water quality and health management for shrimp facilities. Link to RAF’s education site below:

Managing Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei at Shrimp Farms
Managing Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei at Shrimp Hatcheries

EHP reduces nutritional uptake and results in slow growth and wide size variation. EHP is particularly difficult to eradicate because the pathogen reproduces via highly resistant spores that can survive outside their hosts for extended periods.

Managing Early Mortality Syndrome at Shrimp Farms
Managing Early Mortality Syndrome at Shrimp Hatcheries

Early mortality syndrome (EMS) is a serious global disease that can cause 100% mortality of juvenile farmed shrimp. Although there is no “cure” for EMS, the application of best management practices can limit the presence and impacts of the disease.
